FERRISBURGH HOUSE

FERRISBURGH, VT

DETAILS+

This remarkable little house started its life as a humble mobile home on a scenic sloped property in rural Vermont. Over the course of 40 years, it received numerous additions and renovations which allowed it to slowly and organically grow into its own and into its site.

This project consists of a two-story addition in the rear of house, with a new Living Room above and a screened-in porch below. In order to gain additional height within, a steeper roof was used that raises itself higher than the existing house and ties into the existing slope with shed dormers along the sides.

Peaking up above the ridge of the house at the front, the addition makes itself known with a small triangular gable that mimics the entry addition and forms a internal lightwell. This lightwell illuminates the display within and casts an ethereal glow behind the vinatge doors, salvaged from a local Masonic Hall, that surround the fireplace.

A small, triangular balcony is carved from the rear corner, creating a small perch from which to admire the view of the pond below.
